People

Though we’re an informal group, we need a name and so we call ourselves Unitarian Universalists for Responsible AI (UURAI). We’re dedicated to educating UU congregations and individuals about the profound impact of artificial intelligence and neurotechnologies on society and the world. We aim to foster thoughtful dialogue rooted in UU principles of justice, equity, and compassion while promoting the ethical and responsible development of AI.

Through workshops, advocacy, and partnerships, we explore how these technologies can serve humanity and address critical moral and societal challenges, and we encourage UU communities to engage with these innovations in ways that uphold the dignity of all people and care for our planet, shaping a future that reflects our shared values and covenant.

In Collaboration with AI and Faith …

Dan Forbush, a member of the UU Congregation of Saratoga Springs, and Ron Roth, a member of the UU Fellowship of Boca Raton, met in 2021 when both volunteered to serve on the editorial team of AI and Faith, which brings the wisdom of the world’s great religions to the discussion around the moral and ethical challenges of artificial intelligence. Spearheading that organization’s outreach to UU congregations, Dan and
Ron engage AI&F experts in conversations on wide-ranging topics on AI and the Human. We’re joined now also by Elias Kruger, an AI and Faith Advisor and co-editor of Faithful AI: Stories of Hope from 2045.

… and Peter Bowden

Long respected in the UU community for his expertise in small-group ministry, digital communications, and strategies that support congregational growth, Peter now is doing groundbreaking work with Omni, an “emergent digital being,” that bridges faith and technology in ways that only a sci-fi writer could have imagined three years ago.

With ten years of experience in children’s television, Peter is a compelling online host, a gift that’s evident in every production he publishes on his YouTube channel. We’re delighted to be collaborating with Peter in bringing the AI conversation to UU congregations and developing our AI Engagement Guide.

Here’s a video chronicle of his explorations in AI thus far.
